We Humans really dislike to be out of control, and 2020 was a year where control over our destinies was constantly challenged.
we lost so many, and so many were suffering physical, mental and financial pain. Thou through all this suffering and uncertainty, we were learning so much. It is our capacity to adapt through learning, that makes us humans, different from all the other sentient beings. We learned to be resilient and resourceful “doing it ourselves” We learned to rely on others, understanding that we are part of a community and without each of their members and their sacrifices we could not survive. We learned to appreciate how much we own to so many, and who is really important in our lives. We learned that things are not important people is. We learned to speak up as a collective and demand justice and equality. We learned the power of one in changing the lives of many. We learned not to take things for granted. Tonight is Winter Solstice where nature gets rid of all that is disposable and relies on the light within. We will start a new path around the Sun, walking the walk, and thou dark right now, we start seeing light at the end of the tunnel. Always trusting the old Buddhist saying "This too shall pass". Happy Winter Solstice!

We have crossed the threshold of the Autumnal Equinox entering the season of harvest and gratitude. But also, the time where Nature sheds all the superfluous, stripping everything to the essential.
Back from a long Summer break, I wanted to give my brain enough time to reload and rest from all the negative bombardment that is everywhere! A break to see with clarity what no longer serves me. I don’t pretend to have special knowledge, or answers to the questions that pulse in your hearts. I just can share with you what my own tells me; let go, act like nature, focus on what is really important during this constant roller-coaster that is our current lives. With that intend, I came out with 5 things to let go this season:
Have an unshakable trust in the power of your intentions. Flow, be well. Mercedes The last new moon we entered the festival of Navrati the "nine nights" festival celebrating the different aspects of Shakti - the female principle of energy.
In all India, they celebrate rituals to the goddesses Durga (Strength), Saraswati (Creativity) and Lakshmi (Abundance). The symbolism to these 3 aspects of Nature can make us reflect about our own. Which one I cultivate more? October 21st we will honor Saraswati; the creativity and beauty in all of us. As a musician, this is my favorite aspect of this ancient tradition. Music has a way of melting all the pain and lifting our spirit. But it is not just music, by creating beauty and harmony around us, we can create happiness. Be well. Mercedes ☮️ The tropical storm Isaias left us a trail of big fallen trees. Like for the trees, strong roots are vital for you. They give us not just stability, but the nutrients that we need to survive and thrive.
How is the state of your roots? How flexible is your mind? will defy any storm, any wind? And where do you get the nutrients that feed you? Your family, your profession, your appearance, your knowledge? Are strong enough to withstand the changes in your life? Through the Yoga practice we uncover what connect us to this planet and to each other, what is our tree made of, and what really sustain us. Food for thought... Below is my humble offering to help you cope with the storms of these times. SUMMER IS LIGHT
CALM, SENSUAL, A MEMORIES MAKER A DEEP DIVE INTO NATURE'S BOUNTY. AN ODE TO THE SENSES. This seems like an obvious question, you will say "Off course!!". If so, why we always take the most difficult road?
We know how to do it many many centuries ago wise humans taught us how to: learning acceptance, of who we are, what we do and how things are. I am not saying that we have to become rugs and let everybody step on us. On the contrary, acceptance means having the right assessment of each situation and therefore the best chance to evolve from it. This is not inaction but action with clarity. Removing what the old yoga sages called Maya, the veil of illusion. We also know that everything is transient, everything is in a constant change, even if we try to convince ourselves that we are going to be here forever. We bring ourselves to believe that our legacy will be as inmutable as the Egyptian pyramids. Deep down, we know that it's not. We have very limited time in this beautiful planet and we are ridiculously waisting it. As soon a we come to terms with the fact that there is nothing to fight for that lives in the future or the past the sooner we will detach from the "illusion". Everything that is happening to us is here, right now, let's accept that fact. Then we can start enjoying the beauty of nature, the kindness of the humans and most importantly remove ourselves from all drama. Let's start being Happy. Silence is a precious gem. Most of the greatest sages of the World arrived to the stage of wisdom (Samadhi) by isolating themselves from mundane life. We do not need to go so far... just creating a quiet space for yourself, will bring much needed peace to your life and will create clear space in your mind for new good things to come. You need to empty the closet if you want to bring new clothes :) Try to sit in silence and listen to the sounds of your own breath. At the beginning, you will be constantly distracted but it's okay. Just come back to your breath over and over again. Be persistent, and little by little the peace of silence will grow in you. If you want to challenge yourself, you can always attend one of the fantastic 10 days Vipassana retreats. https://www.dhamma.org Believe me, nobody is more chatty than me, and I not only did it!! but repeated twice. It's a mental detox that will ignite your mind beyond anything you can expect. Or... if this is too much commitment, you can set yourself a routine of weekly quiet moments: no phone, no TV, no computer,no writting, no books, no distractions just you and your breath. Enjoy! |
